HOTLIX began in the early 1980s inside a candy store in Pismo Beach, California. Our name comes from our original product, the HOTLIX hot cinnamon sucker. What started as a classic hard candy soon became something much more unusual.
Our founder had a long-standing interest in entomophagy, the practice of eating insects, and decided to bring that curiosity into the candy world. The result was our first edible insect treat: a tequila-flavored sucker with a real worm inside. Customers loved it, and that one bold idea launched an entire line of unforgettable insect-based candies and snacks.
Since then, HOTLIX has continued to create colorful, creative, and conversation-starting treats featuring scorpions, crickets, ants, and worms. Our product line also includes savory insect snacks like Larvets® and CRICK-ETTES®.
Our mission is simple: to make entomophagy fun, approachable, and memorable. For many people, HOTLIX is their first introduction to edible insects, and we love being part of that moment, whether it starts with a laugh, a dare, a gift, or genuine curiosity.
